Most people pay no premium for Part A (hospital). Part B (medical) has a standard monthly premium set each year by Medicare. Beyond that, your costs depend on which plan type you choose β Medicare Advantage plans often have very low or even $0 premiums, while Medicare Supplement plans have a separate monthly premium in exchange for lower out-of-pocket costs. We'll walk through real numbers based on your situation.
It depends on the plan type. Original Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans let you see any doctor in the U.S. who accepts Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans use networks, so you'll want to check that your preferred doctors are in-network before enrolling. We can verify this for you before you choose.
You become eligible for Medicare. Your Initial Enrollment Period is a 7-month window β the 3 months before your 65th birthday month, your birthday month, and the 3 months after. Missing this window can lead to lifetime late penalties, so it's important to plan ahead. Our Turning 65 page walks through the timeline in detail.
Medicare Advantage (Part C) bundles your hospital, medical, and usually drug coverage into one plan from a private insurer β often with extras like dental and vision, but with networks and copays. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) works alongside Original Medicare and covers most of what Medicare doesn't pay, giving you predictable costs and any-doctor flexibility. Different needs, different fits β we'll help you compare.
Yes β every fall there's an Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 through December 7) when you can switch plans for the following year. There are also Special Enrollment Periods if you move, lose other coverage, or qualify for low-income help. We do free annual reviews for our clients to make sure their plan still fits.
Most Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage. If you choose Original Medicare or a Supplement, you'll typically add a standalone Part D drug plan. Either way, the right choice depends on which specific medications you take β that's why we always review your drug list before recommending anything.
